Alto El Golf

Commercial

A private developer in Chile commissioned Handel Architects to design an office building in the El Golf area in Santiago, Chile. This site is surrounded by streets on three of its sides, generating an isle condition with an ideal sun and visual exposure. The 18 story building design incorporates office space, retail and parking. The project intent is to design an iconic building with a singular formal language that responds to the local code and site conditions.

The tower is subdivided into six, staggered rectilinear volumes, individually offset to respond to local climate and mitigate solar heat gain. In this way, a traditionally static office program morphs into a dynamic sequence of indoor/outdoor, exposed/recessed and semi-public/private space.

The 18-story tower is wrapped in silvery glass curtain with white vertical fins and includes 11,000 square meters of office space in 16 floors, 3,000 square meters of retail on the podium levels, and 15,000 square meters of parking with 480 parking stalls.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2012.
