ATX Tower
ATX Tower stacks residential use atop office, visually separated through a unique, angled structural system.
ATX Tower is a new mixed-use development located on one of the most active streets in Austin’s historic entertainment district. The 58-story tower includes 369 luxury rental apartments above 140,000 sq.ft. of commercial space, with views of downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake. Shared amenities are located throughout the building and include fitness space, lounges, pool, co-working space, and a sky lounge and terrace on the 55th floor.
Both the residential and office entrances are located along West 6th Street, and are framed in vertical terra cotta slats providing both transparency and screening. A signature double-height retail space anchors the corner of West 6th and Guadalupe Street.
The first 11 floors house parking, with a perforated metal screen that runs vertically and offers some transparency.
The mixed-use nature of the project led to a unique structural transfer that is visually expressed in the building's design.
On the upper tower, columns on the north and south sides are transferred at an angle outward, while columns on the east and west sides are transferred at an angle inward. This creates column free spaces on the office floors below, and allows for a more open and dramatic amenity deck on the podium.
The tower is expressed though a mix of glass and metal, designed to relate in both scale and materiality to the buildings that are immediately adjacent.
Office and residential floors are clad in custom glass and aluminum unitized curtainwall. 321 West is targeted to achieve LEED Silver accreditation and Austin Energy Green Building 3-Star.
