Roka Mountain Residences
Roka blends into the surrounding alpine forest with a subtle material palette and large picture frame windows.
Roka is a boutique, 8-unit development in the alpines of Hakuba, a village nestled in the northern alps of Japan. This collection of 2-5 bedroom, light-filled apartments offers a rare opportunity to reside in a world-class property in one of the most up and coming snow destinations in Japan.
Handel Architects' design was inspired by Japanese culture and the unique landscape in which Roka is positioned. A modern aesthetic of clean lines and simple silhouettes reflect a contemporary vision while remaining true to the traditional Japanese form. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame breathtaking views of the slopes, while nature resonates in the wood and stone textures of the exterior.
The natural materials continue inside, with finishes selected to provide a feeling of warmth. Floors are finished with timber to echo the snow-covered forest, while muted lighting and a subtle palette ensure the focus is on the views, without sacrificing elegance or style. Glass works in conjunction with pale marble and stone finishes to give a clean and elegant look. Window seats frame an outstanding landscape of snow-covered trees and rugged mountains.
