The Pacific Interiors
The Pacific's interiors present an urbane and elegant living experience on par with that of the world's best luxury hotels.
The Pacific converted a former office building in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood into 76 luxury residences. Next door, ten townhouses were created in a former parking lot. Handel Interiors designed the interiors experience for both the main building and the townhouses, creating unique experiences for each.
The Pacific caters to a sophisticated and cosmopolitan clientele. Handel Interiors' approach marries contemporary international hospitality interiors with an appreciation of the Northern California landscape. The design uses grays and blues, golds, black and dark purples to create an appropriately toned palate throughout.
The entry experience is sensual and private, with a design to embody cosmopolitan refinement. The space is grounded by an antiqued black limestone floor, which contrasts with bright highlights from raw silk paneled walls, hand rubbed bronze and patinated brass. Italian marble of green, black and gold wrap the fireplace and concierge desk. The walls are upholstered in a champagne-color silk and framed with bronze, brass, and fumed oak panels. Custom handmade furnishings in emerald velvets and blue silk mohair complete the composition.
The concierge desk is formed from Portoro Oro marble, Onyx and oiled brass.
Its backdrop is a spectacular paneled installation by internationally renowned artist Helen Amy Murray. The ivory, pearlescent surface of the panels are hand cut with a floral motif composed in a graceful wave form, evoking the rolling fog across the Bay.
An adjacent fireplace wall of honed Alpi Verdi marble counterbalances the room.
Echoes of the California landscape are found in the silver-green carpet, inspired by wild mountain sage of nearby Mount Tamalpais. The dark green tones of the fireplace marble are continued throughout in the lobby's luxurious furnishings. Two Holly Hunt sofas are upholstered in a blue-green velvet from Holland and Sherry. Each sofa anchors a distinctive seating group, and sits atop silver-green silk carpets designed as a sunburst of pure silk against a field of hand-knotted wool.
The motor lobby is Art Deco inspired, with a dramatic scalloped ceiling, black stone floor, fumed oak and bronze paneled walls.
The entire space is framed in brushed Mezzanotte marble.
Above, each of the seventy-six homes feel grand and spacious.
Flats have a palette combination of lacquered taupe and smoked oak. The contemporary deeper palette is equally elegant with traditional furnishings or with modern pieces. The kitchen is minimal in aesthetic, ensuring a warm, unified backdrop. Kitchen cabinetry is provided by Arc Linea.
At the top of the building a two story space overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and Mt. Tamalpias has been designated as the owner’s lounge.
Sharing the floor with penthouse units, this space has been designed as an indoor-outdoor living room for all of the building owners to enjoy. A twenty-two foot high ceiling with custom chandelier allows for saturated light to fill the room during the day and for late evening light to glow. Furnishings are upholstered in purple and plum tones and flank an intimate fireplace. The outdoor terrace is a year-round amenity with fireplaces and casual seating groups.
